Thanjavur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. was registered during the year 1939 as Thanjavur District Milk Supply Federation which was converted into Thanjavur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., during the year 1982. The area of operation for the union is Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai Districts.Thanjavur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. is procuring milk from 24636 milk producers through 359 milk producers cooperative societies. Out of which milk is processed and sold within the area of operation, some quantity of milk is being utilized for preparing milk products like curd, buttermilk, and milk Khoa. The excess milk is being sold to Tamilnadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation and the rest of the milk is converted into Butter and Skim Milk Powder(SMP). The Butter is again converted into Ghee, sold in the local market. The SMP is being utilized for the reconstitution purpose as per the requirement and the remaining will be sold through NCDFI.
